Binding options
Saddle stitched (staple bound) — most popular
Saddle stitching is the most common booklet binding method. Printed sheets are folded and secured with two wire staples through the spine. It’s cost-effective, fast and works well for booklets up to around 64 pages. All our standard booklet printing uses saddle stitching as default.
Perfect bound
Perfect binding gives booklets a flat spine, like a paperback book. Pages are glued rather than stapled. This is ideal for thicker booklets (80+ pages) or anywhere you want a more premium, professional finish. Perfect bound booklets can also have the title printed on the spine.
Paper and cover options
| Paper type | Weight | Finish | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gloss | 170 GSM | Shiny, vibrant colours | Standard inner pages |
| Gloss | 250–300 GSM | Heavier, premium feel | Covers |
| Matt laminated | 170 GSM + lam | Smooth, no glare | Corporate brochures |
| Gloss laminated | 170 GSM + lam | High shine, durable | Retail lookbooks, menus |
| Velvet laminated | 170 GSM + lam | Soft touch, luxury | Premium brochures |
How many pages can a booklet have?
Saddle stitched booklets must always be a multiple of 4 pages (because each sheet of paper provides 4 sides when folded). Common page counts are 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32 and upwards. If you’re unsure how to count your pages correctly, here’s how it works:
- Page 1 = front cover
- Page 2 = inside front cover
- Page 3 = first inside page
- …and so on through to the back cover
Our minimum order is just 10 booklets, making us ideal for short runs as well as large quantities.
How to supply booklet artwork
The easiest way to supply artwork for booklets is as a single multi-page PDF, with pages in reading order (page 1 first through to the final page). Your file should be:
- 300 DPI resolution
- CMYK colour mode (not RGB)
- 3mm bleed on all outside edges
- All fonts embedded or outlined
See our size guides for full artwork specifications and downloadable templates.
